White is traditionally associated with new beginnings, purity, and a fresh slate, so you can’t go wrong. Donning yellow (or gold) could be a good choice as the color traditionally represents prosperity and riches — because, you know, gold. So be classy, chic and elegant, my suggestion is to experiment less and feel very confident whatever you wear. We are closing an old year and opening new doors, so confident has to be at first place. Finding the right outfit multiple times over is easier said than done, though – especially during that period between December 25th and NYE. It’s a funny sort of time; everything suddenly seems quieter and there’s nothing to do except eat chocolates, watch Christmas films and remain in that blissfully ignorant stage. The last thing you want to think about is another night on the tiles, but, alas, as soon as we polish off the last of the pigs in blankets it’ll be time to fill up our glasses again and cheers to the New Year (if there’s any fizz left).
Luckily, fashion’s current penchant for an LBD (whether that’s a long or little black dress) is super adaptable: wear yours now with 20-denier tights and sparkly jewellery, then switch to bare legs and strappy sandals for spring/summer events. But beside the LBD you can try also the green or the red dress. There are three important shades fr Christmas and these are: red, green and gold. White is also a nice option, because it reminds us of something soft and pure as snow. If galas and balls are on the agenda, go for gowns with timeless silhouettes that won’t date. Too much? Not at all! Now is the time to turn yourself into the princess you have always wanted to be. Of course, for some, NYE looks like drinks and dinner – especially given the current climate. In which case, shop smart for versatile pieces, like a classic slip or this season’s favourite knitted dresses, which can be easily elevated.
Whatever your choice, it’s important to be mindful of what you’re buying; one-hit-wonders aren’t the best use of wardrobe space, nor are they a sustainable choice.
