How to create a sporty, yet elegant wardrobe

It might seem at first glance that you can’t mix sporty and elegant styles, because they’re basically opposite, but if we think about it, we quickly realise that the best fashion consists of contrasts. Americans are masters in this field, because they seem to understand better than others that the contemporary woman is constantly on the go, which is why she seeks some comfort in her life, not only a wardrobe which constricts her. So, how do we achieve the right balance between sporty and elegant? The key is to mix different garments, some from the sporty category, like jeans, and some from the elegant group, such as a silk blouse. The quality of materials is the thing you should pay the most attention to, so forget about synthetics and start with basic pieces like cargo pants, a white blouse, sailor style, pastels and wonderful jewellery.

Basic T-shirt and particular pants

We all have many basic T-shirts. They’re cotton, without prints and very comfortable. We should take a harder look around the stores for the pants and find a cut that suits us and is special in some way. It can be tight or loose, longer or shorter, what’s important is that it is not monochromatic. Once you’ve put together the outfit, add a spring coat, knitwear or a blazer.

Work with blouses

They’re so elegant and rewarding, great with jeans or cargo pants, so you can find the contrast between the tops and bottoms. There really are many beautiful shirts and blouses, they can have lace, tulle, transparent sections, they can be bi-colour, with a bow, with fabric covered buttons … there is a myriad of models and you’ll have many to choose from.

Nautical style

This style provides many different interpretations, which is a really a benefit. Mostly, it all revolves around dark blue and white, with a tinge of red, which can be just lipstick or nail polish. It’s an everlasting style with an elegant note to it, and it’s quite wearable and comfortable at the same time, making it perfect for work. The warm season is calling for it, so you can start thinking of buying a striped T-shirt and dark blue pants; you won’t regret it.

The power of the trench coat

It’s clear, how it can transform your look into something quite different, considering it’s a cult piece of clothing. It isn’t limited to rainy days, far from it, choose a beige or dark blue tone, which is a 100 % classic, wear it with jeans, cotton trousers and sneakers, a dress and pumps … It allows for several combinations, which is why we like it so much. To make sure it remains chic, be careful about the number of colours you wear: not more than three.

Camel and powder

These colours slowly and gently lead us toward the summer season, they’re very compatible and harmonious. A camel bag is an excellent choice, which you can combine either with the coat or the shoes, and keep the top in powder tones. This combination makes sure there is an air of elegance, so the bottom can be totally sporty; jeans, sneakers, cargo pants, tight cotton trousers and, of course, even a skirt.

Midi skirt with a sporty T-shirt

This is the case, where you turn the rules around: the bottom is more elegant (and it’s better to wear this kind of skirt with pumps), and the top is somewhat more sporty (you can choose stripes, ordinary knitwear, high neck sweater or a cotton sweater or even a hoody).

Silvery grey replaces black

This is a colour that invigorates, but it’s also associated with sportswear, such as ordinary training pants. If you wear it instead of black, it will instantly turn your wardrobe into something much more elegant; style it with dots and stripes, florals and white, which gives the silver an extra burst of energy. There are countless possibilities! Also try hooded T-shirts that are trending right now, style them with blouses and jeans or a more elegant pair of trousers.

New denim

It’s not the most classic, so you can spot it in culottes, jumpsuits, blouses and skirts; we’re not only talking about classical jeans, but other garments. The new denim is extremely soft, so you can wear it even when it’s hot outside; top pieces certainly include jumpsuits, always in trend, yet different; try wearing it with high heels ‒ they look great with denim, especially in this combination.

High waisted jeans

Wear them with shirts and also with shorter knitted pieces, with T-shirts and blazers, the important thing is that the waist is visible. I have written many times already that the height of the waist is the key, because it doesn’t have to be very high (I don’t really like mommy-style), what’s more important is that it emphasises your figure and it’s quite comfortable: work it in with blazers, you won’t regret it!

Dots and the polka dot mania

And here’s another print that never goes out of style: dots. Their mere existence makes sure that what you’re wearing is elegant and chic; combine the top with something sporty on the bottom, even slim ankle pants that remind us of jogging pants, or a cotton model, which can be striped (this creates a gorgeous contrast with the dots) or smooth..
