I find makeup fun, and to me, there is something magical about it. There are times, when you’re tired, you had a sleepless night, you’re not feeling well or are just cranky, and the makeup routine just makes you feel better. I like experimenting with new colours and textures, browse the store looking for the products most suitable for my skin. One of them is definitely The Balm, a company that I discovered last year, when Lucy gave me their eye shadow set from for Christmas. Not only does their attention to the visual part set their products apart from the rest; the intense colours, extremely soft lipsticks and lip gloss that has just the right amount of substance, make sure that the whole assortment is superb.
I’ll start with the brushes, because in my opinion, women don’t know about them and don’t use them enough. It’s a common mistake to think that we only need two brushes for your entire makeup routine: one for blush and the other for eye shadow. Brushes vary quite a lot, so if you want your makeup to be beautiful, without sharp contours, with precisely applied lipstick and foundation in the right places, you need good brushes. The Balm brush collection is simply wonderful: just look at the design, it’s so feminine, it brightens my day every morning! The most important criteria is the quality, of course, and they have it. At the same time, they don’t need too much care, I usually wash them with baby shampoo once a week and just let them dry naturally. Tommas, my cat, is also a fan. I suppose he thinks they’re his peers, they’re so incredibly soft! Also, a good brush is never cheap, so be prepared to pay a little extra, but you should know that they will last a long time, so it’s a smart investment ‒ like a quality foundation.
I only need 15 minutes for the makeup routine that I’m sharing with you today. I think that’s really quick, and since I have so many things to do in the morning, I never have a whole hour to sit in front of the mirror, doing my makeup. I used The Balm Nude Dude set, I think the colour combination is very nice; half of the shades are lighter and matte, and the other half are darker and metallic. You shouldn’t use just one brush for both kinds or for lighter and darker shades. You will save a lot of time, if you get several eye shadow brushes, because that way you’ll keep the intensity of the colours and avoid blending different shades into one, you want to keep them clean. The burgundy-gold combination (Friendly and Flirty shade) is the winner, in my opinion, and I always use something light under the eyelid, here I used the shade called Fabulous. The lower part of the eyelid has a coppery accent in the Funny shade (here you should use a slightly firmer brush to turn the shadow into an eye pencil). I emphasised the inner part of the eye with a black pencil and added black mascara, of course. I should add that you won’t have any trouble blending the shades together, the set I’m presenting today has very compatible colours that just flow from one to the next. Since they are highly pigmented, a bit of it could land on your face. My trick is to do the eyes first and then the foundation. This keeps you from getting smudges on your makeup.
The lips are somewhere between nude and burgundy, completely without contours, because I’ve already emphasised the eyes. I used The Balm Mai Billsbepaid lipstick and applied some slightly coloured lip gloss over it, just to bring out the shade more. In my opinion this kind of makeup is quick, efficient and suitable for every day. I can also picture it on green or dark eyes, because the colours I used go well with others. I also tried to play with pencils a bit, and I liked the results: if you use a blue, green or violet pencil with this makeup, it will stay just as noticeable and bring some extra emphasis to the colour of your eyes or your clothes.
