How to find the perfect denim jacket

It’s the ideal piece for the time when seasons change, and its’ wearability resembles that of a leather jacket. Denim is going through a revival this year and we can see it everywhere: jeans, jackets, skirts, dresses, even accessories are turning into blue, with fringe, zippers and pockets, because denim is probably the “coolest” accessory. Above all, it’s the one that everyone can afford and it tells a story of an extremely globally oriented fashion that doesn’t create differences. Denim jacket thus became the must have piece that you will use a lot in the fall, and at the same time the accessory that solves many situations. I for one like it, when women combine it with a more elegant dress or a pencil skirt, because it creates an interesting contrast. And I, very much admire the “It”-girls, of course, who mainly opt for printed denim jackets, full of symbols and embellished accessories, which we can sew on ourselves. And the denim jacket with a name written across the back has undoubtedly had a huge success.

The way to find your perfect denim jacket is by first deciding on a colour. A lighter one is more appropriate for the warm season, and dark for the winter; I would definitely advise against going too dark, because it will be more difficult to style. Once the colour has crystallised, consider the shape: it can be short or longer and tailored, or it can be long and loose fitting. There aren’t as many advantages to a short and tailored jacket in my opinion, it’s not the most wearable and looks good on slender women, but it’s truly useless, when it comes to keeping you warm. I personally opt for slightly longer models reaching at least to your waist, which shouldn’t be too tight, even though it’s always better if the jacket is at least somewhat tailored. Always keep in mind that you’ll be wearing a T-shirt underneath it or even something a bit thicker, so to prevent getting one that’s too tight you should definitely try it on with a layer or two already underneath. The must have jacket doesn’t have any embellishments and is totally simple; it’s a model you will use a lot of, so it’s best to upgrade it with nice jewellery. However, if you like printed versions, then by all means get one with different prints, accessories, studs, glitter, flowers … They’re also beautiful, but demand a more clean and neutral outfit.

Models that limit the accessories, such as lace, to only the collar or cuffs are a good solution; there are many out there and they are just as useful. You can wear your denim jacket with a pair of jeans, of course, but choose a contrasting shade , if you do so; so if the jacket is light, wear dark jeans, and vice versa. Also try wearing the jacket with a long skirt: it creates a gipsy style that we know from this spring and now it’s coming back, because long skirts are still in. If you want to be 100 % youthful and trendy, get a T-shirt with the name of a rock band: there are plenty to choose from and they give a relaxed vibe; prints are certainly still trending so you shouldn’t have trouble finding one. Another lovely combination is a figure-hugging knee-length dress with the denim jacket; feel free to wear high heels to highlight the contrast. And this style is office appropriate, of course.
