Do you still remember the crop tops during the 90s? It was a huge style and trendsetters like The Spice Girls and Britney Spears took the fashion world on a roller coaster ride with it. Now they are back and even if young ladies are quite excited about this look, I have to admit that I still have my reservations about its suitability for all body types. But at the end it always turns out, they are for everyone because there are probably like a million ways you can style them. Yes, your belly has to be quite flat, but there are still many tricks you can use to hide it, if not soooo perfect!
My favorite combination is a crop top with a long or midi skirt. Yes of course, I have to be in my best shape and definitely not after a huge lunch, but, well, I have my good moments. Wrap style crop tops are also extremely flattering as they can be adjusted according to how much skin you want to show. They also draw the eye inwards which is flattering on large or small busts. Kylie Jenner looks great, but she’s also 18 so she can get away with a crop top, high-rise jeans, and a long sleeve top tied around her waist and still look better than all of us. And so can you! Just not at work. (Unless you work from home, and if that’s the case, why do you care what I think? Crop tops are for everybody, but sometimes it’s a question of dressing it up.
“We believe in celebrating style at any age, shape or size,” says Suzi Burns from JD Williams, the retailer which specialises in fashion for women aged 45-plus. “Our ‘Midster’ customers are becoming increasingly bolder in their fashion choices, which is great to see, and there’s no reason why they can’t adopt any trend and make it work for them.” The key, Burns says, is remembering that you don’t actually have to reveal your midriff at all if you don’t want to. Older women can wear the trend by pairing with high-waisted bottoms that rise up past the belly button.
