There are actually plenty of ways to wear velvet beyond the holidays and New Years, since the luxe fabric lends itself perfectly to winter dressing. And while fabrics like tweed and houndstooth are equally cozy, there’s something less predictable, yet equally versatile, about velvet. The key is to mix velvet with non-festive fabrics, like denim, wool, and poplin and to avoid embellishments like shimmering earrings and shoes that conjure up a distinctly holiday vibe. Here, a few easy-to-recreate outfits using a velvet blazer, trousers, and a dress.
Velvet blazer
It is a must have and you always have to own one. The best colour is black, but I think that green, blue, bordeaux and white are good as well. The good thing is that you can combine a vemvet blazer with everything: jeans, elegant pants, dresses and skirts. It is a master piece that talks about style.
Velvet Dress
A super romantic and nice velvet dress will never go out of style. As the velvet jacket, we are talking about a piece that you can wear at the office or for a special evening, with high heels or ballerinas. My advice is to choose a solid colour, they are more sophisticated and velvet is quite rich as a material, so you can slow down with colours and prints.
Velvet Trousers
Combine them with a matchy blazer or wear them alone, with a blouse, a Tee, a leather jacket. I love the relaxed shapes of the new pants, a little bit cropped and wide. In this case you will need high heels, or a nice pair of ankle boots.
Velvet shoes
Velvet boots, pumps and Mary Jane shoes are still cool. Of Course you can find also something flat, like velvet slip-on shoes or ballerinas. Velvet shoes are nice, because they let you add a pop of color, so opt for a neutral version in navy, yellow, pink or a colour that you love.
Velvet tops
I like them when they combine velvet and lace. They look so feminine in right under a normal blazer, or even with a long sleeve shirt, which have to be really tight. Play with textures and layerings, fashion has to be very fun!
Velvet bag
A couple of years ago it would be an evening piece, but as you probably know fashion changes, so here we are. The new velvet bags are amazing always and at every hour, so yes, you can wear them also during the daylight and they still work.
