Would you describe yourself as indecisive or unpredictable? Even if it may seem at first glance that its the same thing, it is quite unforgivable to equal both notions. It’s a bit like saying that an apple is similar to an orange, since they’re both round. This summer’s makeup trends emphasise the difference between the two by bringing the unpredictable to the forefront, thus automatically excluding the indecisive. “Goodbye, randomness. The leading trends are heading towards extremes: you can either choose a natural looking makeup in the nude colour scheme or lean to extreme creativity with an abundance of accessories”, Michele Magnani explains, the MAC Cosmetics Global Senior Makeup Artist. Eyeliners are very graphic Black, glittery and metallic eye shadows in golden and silver shades are making a big comeback. This is the year to bring some extra attention to your style via your makeup. It’s an unusual and unexpected atmosphere. The eyebrows are getting more boyish, because we use products to make them more defined and stronger.
The key is to become aware of your advantages; every woman has them: a beautiful smile, nice shape of eyes, perfect complexion, full lips, beautiful eyebrows … find the thing that you think is the most attractive and make it stand out. To achieve this, you should use the right makeup and products that suit you 100 %. When you do, it doesn’t matter if you follow the trends, because if your eyes are blue, for example, the same blue colour will not suit you as an eye shadow, even if it is trendy. Try to find a contrast, those colours will make sure your eyes get the deserved attention. So if they’re dark, go for any shade of blue, golden or violet; if they’re blue, go for shades of golden, dark gray, black, emerald green and orange; if your eyes are green, try golden, dark brown, silvery gray, black and powdery rose colours. Bring some colour to your lips with a lipstick that doesn’t create too much of a contrast to your face: if your skin is fair, be careful of red and orange, and try to avoid fuchsia. If your skin tone is darker, it should be somewhat simpler.
Always emphasise the eyebrows and do try to shape them correctly; if you could use a bit more hair, you should definitely use growth serums to improve their condition. Avoid the round shapes, they tend to age; the same goes for brows that are too short. It’s actually better if the arch is somewhat longer, as that gives you a more feminine look. When it comes to eyelashes, remember: there is never enough mascara, so keep them very long and very dark. Avoid experimenting with colourful mascaras, the only exception is dark violet, because it seems almost black and it can look really good. Use the other colours in the summer, when your complete look of lighter colors and whites allow you to experiment more.
Lips tell a special story, and they don’t give you much choice: either go for the natural nude look or choose a flattering shade of red or burgundy. Winter shades flirt with the nature in the colder months, with wine, berries and autumn leaves. Either way, Michele Magnani suggests not to hide away, but rather bring out your own personal beauty, including the flaws. It seems like the days of wearing masks are (finally!) over. Shaking the norms and trends off is exactly what emphasises our uniqueness: makeup is a form of self expression, and the summer trends are headed this way.
