For leading ladies like Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Demi Moore, Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPherson, it’s easy to wonder if these ladies have found a fountain of youth as their beauty seems to be increasing with their age. While many of these women have had a little tuck here and a little nip there, other female celebrities are just getting better and better thanks to good genes and staying healthy. No plastic surgery can compete the youthful looks that these seasoned beauties are bringing. Whatever these lookers are doing, be it good docs or good genes, it’s certainly working. The amazing news is that the fashion industry is finally waking up, engaging beauties at fifties for catwalks and advertising campaigns. For the past few seasons Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have peppered their runways and campaigns with the children of famous people, and even their own customers. But over the weekend the duo had a surprising guest walk their show: Isabella Rossellini! The iconic actress strutted the runway with her children, and her new grandson. But beside iconic Isabella we saw also Carla Bruni, od iconic model Pat Cleveland at Laura Biagiotti, even Tatjana Patiz at Etro.
A combination of age discrimination, lack of opportunities, and the need for a steady pay cheque all conspire to keep people in their current job, even if they don’t particularly like it. However, a growing team of researchers and career coaches are seeking to change this and provide ideas on how to make the career switch after 50. These women have an incredible carisma; just think about Cindy Crawford, I really can’t realise that today she is a fifty plus lady, her beauty is still there, with a small retouch to her lips which was, in my opinion, really unnecessary. Like anyone with a face as globally recognizable as Crawford’s, genetics definitely play a role in the youthful, taut complexion before us, but she also says exercising, eating clean and taking great care of her skin are big factors, too.
When you were younger, you may have neglected optimal nutrition and still saw performance improvements and aesthetic benefits from exercise. In your 50s, nutrition is paramount to getting those same results. A diet that consists primarily of whole, unprocessed foods fuels your body optimally and discourages the accumulation of belly fat. I sincerely admire women and men at 50+ when they are in a great shape, because I understand the effort they make and discipline they have to get such a nice body. Then I look at beautiful JLo and, well, she is really amazing. From her diet, to her workout routine and of course her skincare secrets, everything is perfect! Can you believe she is 49 and not 30?
I recently read that in England there are quite a lot of agencies for and with “grey models” and some of them work a lot, also for Prada and other big brands that in the fashion industry mean a lot. This new generation of grey (and they are not necessarily really grey!) is working global, proving that something is changing. Of course they have different qualities, skills and desires as the many Hadid, Jenner and Gerber, but they are interesting as well. This phenomena is redefining age globally and the new/old models are redefining fashion, beauty and lifestyle too. Say hello to the faces of the future, some of them are already known, but as you know, fashion loves the past and we love the fact that actually every woman is beautiful, even if she is 50, 60, 70 or 80.
