Summer is usually the time of year when we take a vacation, either short or long, and that’s when we start thinking about a wardrobe that would seem chic and minimalistic enough at the same time, because we cannot take the entire closet along. And it’s the minimal chic trend that can be your guide when you’re packing, even if it is just for a weekend by the sea. Summer longs for breeziness in every sense of the word – you don’t need much, just the right pieces that will be there for you during the days and evenings, and some good accessories to keep you from going unnoticed.
Bikini. Don’t go anywhere without it. We all love the sun and we all know how easy going life at the sea is, and we go with the flow. So a swimsuit, not last year’s, because we’re quite exposed in a bikini and need an extra boost of confidence. So invest in a good model that embellishes your curves nicely, so you’ll feel sexy.
White shirt. Totally basic, maybe a bit longer so you can tie it up and wear it with jeans or shorts, or just unbuttoned over your swimsuit. I like the hint of menswear on a woman’s body, because it seems sensual and yet simple. In my opinion, simplicity is the key to a more beautiful vacation.
Sunglasses. I buy several different models every time I’m in the States, but not the luxury brands, because I believe sunglasses aren’t a sound long term investment. Not only do the trends change, it’s more that I get tired of them quickly. I chose to wear the turquoise ones today, black tomorrow, powder a couple of days after that … And the shapes are a real challenge. But I always keep a pair in my bag, just like on vacation.
Flat sandals. Not slip-ons, although I know they come in handy, but leather sandals are much more chic and a better choice for the evenings. This year summer fasion dictates a lot of practical versions: with pompoms, with nothing more that leather bands, golden ones, gladiators … There are so many options . You also have espadrilles, so I don’t think there should be any trouble with the selection.
Little white dress. Don’t go anywhere without it, now is its’ season. Super simple, knee-length, possibly off the shoulders (how I love these models!) and with ruffles, you won’t believe how many times it proves useful and how beautiful it looks. Another case where simplicity works its magic. You can wear it in the day time or the evenings, it’s always flawless and fresh; I opt for cotton and some lace here and there, as a whimsical addition.
Big earrings. Because you will probably wear your hair up quite often due to the high summer temperatures, which can make long hair a nuisance. Big earrings are a solution to just about anything: wear a ponytail or a braid and something beautiful on your ears. Choose colourful dangle earrings with a story. I for one always connect jewellery to a specific event that made me happy, and it’s like wearing lucky charms instead of perfectly ordinary earrings. Let your imagination guide you … and your heart.
