As Seneca said Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. The beginning (or end) of a marriage, a move across the country, a new home, birth of a child or starting a new job. What you have to do is simply exercise the power you have to choose. You can choose to create a fresh start in a relationship by forgiving someone (or yourself), changing your attitude, letting go of the past, creating a new habit or banishing an unwanted one.
I’ve learned that sometimes you need to let go of everything you’re clinging to and start over, whether because you’ve outgrown it or because it’s not working anymore, or because it was wrong for you in the first place. Starting over can be the scariest thing in the entire world, whether it’s leaving a lover, a school, a team, a friend or anything else that feels like a core part of our identity but when your gut is telling you that something here isn’t right or feels unsafe, you really need to listen and trust in that voice.
You may not see it today or tomorrow, but you will look back in a few years and be absolutely perplexed and awed by how every little thing added up and brought you somewhere wonderful – or where you always wanted to be. You will be grateful that things didn’t work out the way you once wanted them to. It’s good to start over. It will be scary but you will see what you’re really made of; it’s the best opportunity to achieve what you never thought you could.
Live your life, don’t let it live you. If you’re not happy right now, just know that it’s never too late to start over. You can choose to stop using “but it’s hard” as an excuse to avoid reaching beyond what’s comfortable to change or leave an unacceptable situation or to do the work to achieve your dreams and goals. And you can choose to face your fears of uncertainty and change to embrace all the opportunities within a future that is different from the one you originally planned.
Don’t start your day with the broken pieces of yesterday. Every day is a fresh start. Each day is a new beginning. every morning we wake up is the first day of our new life.
