Graceful Story

Style of the day: the Ralph Lauren teddy bear

Photo: Zen

While the horse silhouette is as iconic as the Nike swoosh, it wholly represents the aspirational preppy aesthetic which Polo Ralph Lauren was built upon—polo shirts, oxfords, khakis and the like. The Bear—whether sipping a martini in a tuxedo, skiing down a slope or singin’ in the rain—lends itself more to versatility and excitement, both in aesthetics and in perception. While the iconic Polo Player is confined to representing the dry, moneyed elite that Ralph Lauren’s label is stereotyped to represent, the Polo Bear embodies the various personalities and lifestyles that Ralph Lauren’s several sublabels can be applied to. The Polo Bear is warm and fun. Jerry Lauren, Ralph’s brother and the company’s creative director of men’s design, said it best, “Who doesn’t love a teddy bear?”

My style is as follows: sweater Ralph Lauren, pants Mango, bag Chloé, shoes Guess, earrings Accessorize, ring with the brown stone JCrew, other ring Accessorize.
