While we could find more than eight, it seems to me that there are some very typical fashion mistakes that women over the age of 25 make. Sometimes we get caught up in our past and don’t even notice that we have been wearing the same items for ages. Other times we feel like fashion doesn’t interest us at all, because we have our own personal story and fashion philosophy. And yet … Are we really so flawless? These are the mistakes we all make, therefore it’s better to become aware of them before they turn into a fashion, beauty, and personal chaos.
You’re wearing the same things you did 20 years ago
You know, you’re just comfortable with a specific style and feel as though it will never change. I find it beautiful, when a woman knows her own taste, what she really likes, but if you were wearing super tight pants 20 years ago, that doesn’t mean you should do it now, and not just because they’re not comfortable. Similar is true for the garments that reveal everything and leave nothing to the imagination; these are always inappropriate.
You don’t care about fashion trends
I agree that some pieces last forever and even if your style is very particular, it’s still good to check here and there, what fashion has to offer and advise. This doesn’t mean that you’ll be open to everything they have in stores, far from it, but it’s great to know if lighter or darker colours are in, if longer or shorter pants are trendy.
You don’t know your body shape
This might be your biggest fashion mistake, because it means you’re buying clothes that aren’t suitable for your body type. If you’re bigger at the hips, focus on the pieces that visually cover them; if you have a beautiful bust line, accentuate it, if you have shorter legs, wear high heels. You’ll be gorgeous, when you start wearing the right clothes. How to determine, what suits you: stand in front of a mirror and try on everything in your closet.
Too many loose shapes
A lot of women think that loose fitting clothes disguise their weak points, for instance a bigger behind. What it actually does is just make your rear end look even bigger, more than that, even shapeless. The fact is not everybody has the perfect figure, so it’s best to get over those “flaws” and find yourself a wardrobe that doesn’t emphasise them. If you’re heavier, try to avoid loose clothes, the key is to accentuate the line between your upper and lower body emphasized with a narrow or wide belt.
Too much colour
Colours are beautiful, but it can be quite distracting to dye your hair red, wear a pink blouse and light blue jeans with it. You should pay attention to the following advice: three colours are sufficient, and they have to be compatible. Always think about your tan and hair colour, because red hair prevents you from getting away with many shades, because they clash. Also mind the fluorescent colours ‒ they tend to make you look older.
Matchy-matchy!
It definitely ages you. A matching jacket and trousers, jacket and skirt, dress and jacket … All fine, but only up to a point. Make sure the matching sets have a special cut, or if you prefer a classic and your job requires it, try combining pieces from different sets. Sets seem strict and proper and often don’t emphasise femininity, so try out something new. There are many sets that are interesting and beautiful, even if you wear them with other pieces to break up the whole.
Mind the lengths
Not too short, but not too long either, especially if you’re not tall. Length is very important, so get it right for your height. Short is nice when you’re young and have perfect legs; long dresses work well in the summer, when we can wear them with flat sandals. Midi length is always acceptable, but it requires very high heels.
Choosing the right undergarments
Smooth with tight dresses, because lace showing through the fabric isn’t a good look. Mind the shape of the bra, the width of the straps, the colour and the quality of elastane. It may seem unimportant, but undergarments are the first thing to shape your body. Nude body shaping undergarments are always a smart choice, and choose a good brand, because quality will make a world of difference. Don’t think of these smart pieces as something your grandmother would wear since practically every celebrity is wearing them.
