A men’s article this time, but through female eyes, which perceive aesthetics differently. I believe that every man has his own list of favourite or must have pieces, which is why I am happy to touch on the subject, even in the sense that women are oftentimes the ones that take care of their man’s closet. Just as we can buy basic pieces that will never go out of style, there are pieces of clothing that create a certain style and ensure a level of elegance for a true gentleman. It’s not that they’re connected to the social status or the job title, because they’re all pieces that a man can wear always and everywhere, so it’s good that he has them.
White men’s shirt. With long sleeves in the winter and short in the summer. It’s a must have piece that always comes in handy. I personally like it with jeans, and love an elegant white shirt with a good pair of jeans, because the contrast is clear and the effect is great. Always choose a fitted cut and never 100 % cotton (it’s harder to iron); It has to be long enough to stay tucked in the trousers. Keep the collar a bit smaller and don’t button it all the way up, at least the last button needs to stay undone.
Cognac leather belt. A universal colour that goes with everything, just like black. This year is all about brown and natural leather is making a comeback, which is just as true for men’s wardrobe. A beautiful belt is noticeable and quite useful, as it accentuates the difference between the upper and lower body (it’s especially important to achieve this for men with a stronger build).
Good jeans. Not too loose, otherwise it becomes shapeless, and not too light. Mind the length: shorter models are in, which are supposed to be worn without socks, but I’m sure this trend won’t suit everyone. If you prefer classic, keep the jeans long enough, straight cut, slightly darker and not too low. Even though the younger generation seems to believe that half exposed hairy behinds in boxer shorts are appealing, trust me, they are not.
Nice wallet. It’s hard for me to think of something worse than a Superman wallet or a frayed and ripped one that has surely seen better days. Keep in mind that wallets are not forever, and change them. A man’s wallet shouldn’t be too large, and it speaks volumes about the owner, when it’s kept tidy. And another thing: the way money is folded and the state of the wallet says a lot about a person in relation to their view on finance, which not a point one should dismiss.
Interesting sneakers. It’s a good thing that fashion has become smart and forward thinking enough to allow men to wear an elegant suit with sneakers. I personally love the style, because sneakers always add a more youthful note even to the older gentlemen. Brands like Adidas, Nike, New Balance and all the designer brands have a variety of slightly different and very innovative models.
