While it’s true that beauty is a subjective matter, it’s also a fact that we all strive to look flawless and neat. We want to like ourselves and want others to like us. I don’t think there are any universal tricks that could apply to everybody, but there are some tips and pieces of advice we can follow to look as smart and elegant as we can with a minimum amount of effort. We don’t need much to look polished, if certain habits become our daily routine.
Mind the hair
Our hair and nails quickly show tell-tale signs about our general well-being. This means we have to nourish them every day of the year and keep track of any changes, because they do occur. It’s rather normal for hair to fall out at times, other times it’s brittle and there comes a point in life, when it looks lush and perfect. Try to keep heat treatment to a minimum, make sure you use quality colouring products, always keep rich masks, oils and a good quality shampoo in your bathroom cupboard and remember to switch products from time to time, because just as your organism requires various things at different times, so does your hair.
Don’t go anywhere without mascara
The outer lash corners are the most important. Add layer upon layer of mascara here to achieve an alluring look and wide eyes. Use black tint, because it’s universal and the most useful. Mascara is a product you should use, even if you’re not a big fan of makeup. Personally, I would add just a touch of blush to your cheeks and some lip gloss … You don’t really need to try that hard, it will quickly become a habit. I do it every morning and I am not even aware when it all happens.
Foundation in key places only
It’s quite interesting, the whole foundation business, we don’t really need to apply it all over the face, although that’s what we most often do. We only need it where the skin is problematic; for example, only apply it to your forehead, if you have spots, otherwise skip it. Tap it on using your fingertips or apply it with a brush. The latter means you’ll use a bit more product, but the effect will be a perfectly smooth complexion. Don’t forget about highlighters in key places: the tip of your nose, your chin and above the cheeks. That’s the best trick for the perfect look.
Blushing cheeks for a healthy look
You simply can’t do without it and the shade of the blush depends on your skin tone. I opt for powder pink and orange, and bronzers are perfect for this time of year, when you still have some of that summer tan. Don’t overdo it, because the effect should look very, very natural. They say that too much blush is inappropriate for mature women, because it ages, which is why even a darker shade of foundation will do the trick for a natural contouring on your cheeks. I often use concealers, because they have a more long-lasting effect and are easier to apply.
Your hands are your calling card
Hands show your age quite obviously. Age spots, yellowing nails or a bad manicure don’t help the matter one bit. The skin of your hands requires special care, so always keep a nourishing hand cream close, and use it as often as possible! It should be non greasy to avoid staining your clothes, and small, so you can keep it in your bag. Use a hand scrub every now and then, your body scrub will do the job nicely. Hand nail polish is a must, even in neutral tones, but try to make a habit to get a manicure. It’s nothing too difficult, just take some time, which you dedicate to yourself. And what could be better?
