I like writing about thistopic, because we’re all aiming to havegood style, after all. What you should know is that good style doesn’t mean wearing the things everyone else likes, because there is never going to be a universal answer. What good style is mostly about, is wellbeing: keeping fashion from hinderingyour style and making the most of it to look better, younger and always in a positivemood. Having money always helps,of course, you hop on a plane to Paris, have fun in the city of lights and stop by Chanel, where they take care of your wardrobe. This could be an amazing experience, but the allure of fashion is in your own personal interpretation, in taking expensive pieces and styling themwith affordable ones, or simply using budget-friendly items while still looking fabulous, because we know how to accessorize. These is some of my personal advice.
Money isn’t everything (even though it helps)
What I mean is that good style doesn’t automatically depend on money, because nowadays there are affordable brands that can offer some quality pieces. I don’t necessarily mean H&M and Zara, because I prefera higher quality, but there is a vast space between the brands I’ve mentioned and Chanel, and maybe you just don’t know what’s availablethere yet. So keep an open mind, be curious and explore, this will take you far. Browse through magazines, buy books, take note onstyles you like on others. Maybe then a question will arise, justified, of course: “When will I know my style is good?” The answer is this: when you feel confident and start noticing pieces that may not be the most fashionable, but suit you well. And when you figure out what’s appropriate for your body shapeand how thatrelates to different lengths and shapes and no sales person will be able to persuade you otherwise.
Keep timeless pieces part of your wardrobe
A good blazer, jeans, leather pumps, quality bag, white shirt, leather jacket, wrap dress, midi skirt. pleated skirt, trench, stylish ballet flats to begin with. Timeless pieces are beyond trends, they’re always in, never go out of style, so they’re the ones that require a smart investment. It’s good to spend a bit more on the pieces I mentioned, because they will last. This is particularly true for leather items and bags: you have to save up for an “it” bag, but it will always create good style.
Little trends, big achievements
In life, a lot can be achieved with baby steps. Similar is true in fashion. It’s a compliment to your beauty and femininity, it’s about that moment, when you feel more good looking and more confident, because you’re wearing the right piece. But the magic won’t happen overnight. It takes time and your fashion steps have to be adjusted attimes, cautious and thought-through. No sudden revolutions. Just because a friend has white boots doesn’t mean you should have them as well. And just because high sole sneakers are in, doesn’t mean you should buy them. Think about who you are and what your wishes are, and only then act, prudently and wisely. Just as elsewhere in life.
Attractivejewelry, bags, shoes and belts. Invest in jewelry, even the affordable brands, such as Zara have gorgeous statement earrings. Then consider pearls, because they’re a must have, a vintage brooch to spice up any blazer, longer necklaces, because ethno style will always be in. Keep all your accessories in a big box, because they’re able to turn a plain white T-shirt into a statement piece. I tip my hat to this magical effect.
Play around with monochromatic outfits
They make you look taller and slimmer, plus the tone-on-tone effect is very appealing. Right now you can try with pastels or earth tones. Style beige with cream, white, dark blue or army green. If you love elegance, opt for three colors max. Or you can choose a matchy suit in a different color and simply add a white shirt. A minimalistic outfit always achieves a special effect, so opt for it, you won’t regret it.
Online is another world
Buy online. Why? Because you can count on good deals, finding discounts, designer pieces or statement fashion that is often hard to findin stores sometimes. Special occasions are a clear exception, so don’t shop online for a wedding, for example. Keep track of pages you like and are safe to buy from. Paypal is one of the systems that guarantees safe transactions. Learn about world renowned brands that you can’t get locally and opt for them, because a piece that no one around you has will be delivered to your home, which is a pleasure that will last. Online is another world, which is getting bigger every day, so it’s impossible to ignore.
There are so many nice things in my mother’s closet, my head starts spinning. Our mothers are sure to have top quality night gowns to evening bags, jackets and an unbelievable choice of high waist trousers, because they wore them back in the day, not because it was so fashionable, but because the model was all there was to buy. If you’re lucky enough to have similar figures, you’re set. The real vintage is what’s hiding in their closets, all it takes is some patience and imagination to incorporate the fabulous pieces into your life, which is easy to accomplish.
