This season, fashion has a bunch of skirts and dresses in store for us, but I often hear women say that they simply don’t have the right figure to wear a skirt, so it seems to me that quite a few prejudices are attached to this piece. A skirt actually looks good on every figure, what’s important is to find the right fit. You shouldn’t have any trouble picking one, if you’re slim and tall, because you can wear just about anything, however, if your problem is shorter legs, wider hips and the other less grateful attributes, you should first analyse your figure and only then set out to shop. Today, we’re going to take a look at the pieces that are trending this season, specifically those that can help hide common problem areas. You should know that in the end it all comes down to your confidence. Put on a pair of high heels and some rouge on your lips, the rest will come naturally.
Mini skirt
There is an unwritten rule that says we can only wear it up to the age of 30. Personally, I think it’s an old-fashioned rule, because women tend to stay in shape for much, much longer. Miniskirt is closely tied to the overall physical shape you’re in and the muscle tone in your legs. If you have beautiful, slender and smooth legs, go ahead and wear it, and if you’re no longer a spring chicken, don’t overdo the length (or rather, don’t underdo it :)). A micro miniskirt looks good when you’re 16, and then slowly loses its’ charm, because it just isn’t elegant.
Pencil skirt
The length of the skirt comes to just under the knees, so it’s not that useful for shorter women; although you can solve this conundrum by styling it with a pair of high heels and a higher waist-line. It’s great for women with curvaceous hips, because it follows and beautifully accentuates the outlines of a woman’s figure, ensuring it’s sexy and attractive. Opt for jersey models, because they fit 100 % and you can wear them really high at your waist.
A-line skirt
Probably the most useful piece of them all, because it provides curves to the very slim women, and hides quite a few pounds on those that need it. This is another case where you should style the piece with high heels. The slim and tall women can opt for ballet flats or sneakers, but the rest should wear heels.
Maxi skirt
Lots of people think this style is only appropriate for the extremely tall women, but that’s not the case. First of all, it covers thick thighs, and secondly, smaller women can style it with thin heels for a sophisticated look. I actually like it in combination with sneakers, even on a small woman. It’s a big hit right now, just mind the extremely long versions, because the hem easily tears or gets dirty.
Pleated skirt
It looks best on slim and tall women, but it really all depends on the pleats. The very narrow and thick versions aren’t suitable for women with a bit of belly fat, because they will exaggerate it. The starting point of the pleats is another important thing: it will make you look wider, if it starts just below your waist line, so mind the shape and thickness of the pleats.
