What to wear in case of wider hips

This is an issue almost every woman faces, especially after giving birth. Our body structure changes and our hips start protruding, making us look like an hourglass. While it’s true we live at a time when larger bottoms and wide hips are welcome attributes (Kim Kardashian could say a lot on this topic), I realize it’s not all just a picnic, right? Even in this case, fashion has its’ solutions, so don’t worry; all you need is a clear vision and a few select items in your wardrobe, which aren’t too tight, but rather provide some more coverage for the hips. That doesn’t mean, of course, that everything should be wide and loose, because we still have to mind the feminine aspect‒and that can never be overdone.

Your ideal wardrobe entails the following items:

One thing is clear, you have to divert attention to the upper part of the body, which makes printed floral, geometric, polka-dot and other pattern T-shirts, tops and blouses perfect for you. Same goes for large pieces of jewelry: choose the right statement necklace and no one will notice your hips (this doesn’t apply, if you have a large bust; if you’re a D cup, opt for large earrings instead!). Opt for oversized drop earrings and nobody will know, what your bottom part looks like. In short, always emphasize your upper part, from the waist up, and you’ll succeed.

Pieces to avoid:

Everything that’s tight, accentuates our curves and as we’ve said before, hips may be interesting, but there’s no need to highlight them with a pair of skinny pants and platform soles, which make you walk strangely anyway. Instead, opt for something more loose, and remember that colors play an important role as well: darker is definitely preferable. Mind the placement of the pockets: if they’re at the hips, they will widen you, so they have to be placed strategically. Another thing to watch out for is that the pocket doesn’t open as you walk, as that’s another widening element. Short lengths are a big no, because they make your legs look stronger. And don’t opt for XXL items; they may make you feel like you’ll look slimmer, but they definitely don’t have a positive effect.
