How to use makeup to look much younger

To me, makeup is an art form. I have very clear rules that, when followed, can actually make us look more beautiful and younger, they help blur the imperfections and emphasise our advantages. Even if you’re not the most skilled or never have much time, it doesn’t matter. All you need is a couple of hours to go to the store to buy the right products, pay attention to the right tricks and perhaps invest in a quick makeup course. The best ones are where the makeup artist teaches you how to do your makeup with the products you already have at home. A good move would be to go with her to the store to buy the exact things you need. I spend a lot of time in front of the camera, I’ve done many interviews with makeup artists from all around the world, so I can write down and share with you some of their advice.

Use the right shades of foundation. There is nothing worse than orange shades, because they age us and make sure you look like you’re wearing a mask, completely artificial. Remember, the right shade consists of more than one tone, so it can be difficult to find the perfect foundation. Be prepared to mix and blend, even different brands.

Please, don’t overuse the concealer. The panda look isn’t flattering, keep this area lighter, but not white. The concealer shouldn’t be too dry, because it will get into the little wrinkles and emphasise them. So try a highlighter or a concealer that has enough substance. Don’t get a pink one; that will look forced, Get a shade similar to your skin tone, only slightly lighter.

The risky lipsticks: pink an orange tones. They do tend to age you, so try going for a different shade. Similar is true for very dark lipsticks like burgundy, especially if your lips have creases or you have some wrinkles around your lips. If that is the case, go for the lighter shades that draw a bit less attention. Forget about fuchsia, it’s so passé and difficult to wear.

Too much powder. It’s better to let your skin shine a bit and not be completely matte than wearing a layer of powder that will seem like flour. Powder fixes makeup, so it’s very important if you’re about to start a photoshoot, otherwise you don’t need it.

Black eyeliner. It closes-up the eye and males it appear smaller, so just forget about it. On the other hand, eyeliner requires a very steady hand and total precision; it does look beautiful, but it’s demanding. My advice: go for the softer pencil and use your finger to blend slightly.

Do not draw new contours on your lips. Those always look artificial! Lines are too hard, so if it’s not red lipstick, you can skip this and just use a lipstick or lip gloss on their own. Lip pencil is another thing that emphasises wrinkles around the lips, but if you just can’t do without it, make sure it’s the exact colour of the lipstick to make it 100 % invisible.

Never leave the house without a blush. The main thing is to emphasise the cheekbones; perhaps not with pink, but a golden or orange shade to make it more subtle. Pink is a good choice for the summer, but in the winter you should go for warmer tones. Apply your blush in a circular motion and don’t go overboard with the line towards your temples, because it will look not look natural.

Get brushes. For your eyes, lipstick, foundation and cheekbones, so you can practise and get more precise. Brush is an excellent way to apply lipstick, because you can blend it in gradually and avoid using it directly. It’s also good for the foundation, it helps spreading it evenly. A brush is the key to eye shadow and blush, of course, so invest in a good set of brushes, it will make your life easier.

Don’t forget about the brows. They’re actually the first thing to emphasise. Draw an arch, fill in the gaps and imperfections using a pencil, and finish off with some gel. A lot of women either forget about their brows or they just colour them (usually using a colour that is too dark, which makes them seem older), which is not nearly enough. Don’t forget, brows are the frame of our face and play a key role, when talking about beauty and harmony.
