We live in a time when fashion has an unbelievable amount of options for every taste and body type, for every age and occasion, so every woman can find something that suits her. Of course, the runway models are the trendsetters, and they have flawless bodies so everything looks good on them. Today, I’m going to focus on wardrobe for women who are not very tall, so they wear ready-to-wear pieces for petite frames, and need some guidelines to look a bit taller, but most of all to look more feminine and elegant. There are a few simple tricks that can add a few inches, and no one will notice you’re not exactly tall.
Go for block colour pieces
This is a piece of advice that always pays off, you shouldn’t choose large prints but rather monochromatic outfits. You can achieve an even greater effect, if you match the colour of your belt to the skirt or to the trousers.
Always choose the right size
Don’t buy things that are too small or too big, because your body type will exaggerate the flaw. The larger pieces tend to optically shorten: the waist should always be visible as well as the shape of the legs and torso.
Wear heels
A logical choice: high heels always make sure a woman looks taller; but still mind the ankle straps on the sandals, because they shorten. It’s good that the top of your foot is as free as possible, so your best option are simple sandals that leave your feet bare.
Vertical lines
Another trick that definitely makes you look taller, just be careful of the “pyjamas effect”; even lines can be demanding to wear. Stick to “less is more”, and you should be fine.
Choose large pieces of jewellery
This is the perfect way to draw attention and make sure you’re noticed. A large necklace or big earrings are always a good investment for women who aren’t that tall.
Go for a high waist and beautifully tailored dresses
It’s important to find the right shape for your body and opt for high waisted pants, because they optically lengthen your legs, which makes them perfect for your body type.
Forget boxy shapes
This includes big or full platform soles, emphasized shoulders and boxy dresses, because they will look shapeless on you, making them inappropriate for your body type.
Mind the size of the handbag
It should definitely not be oversized, because that will look huge on you and will visually shorten you. Smaller crossover bags are perfect, and they’re a big trend right now.
