Every woman has her own beauty routine and every one of you knows, what is most suitable for your skin. I know that you probably have your favourite products that you just can’t go without, and today I would like to share with you my own beauty routine, which you can take as some good additional advice. I probably won’t discover anything brand new, but even so I would like to tell you how I have learnt to listen to my body and my needs over the years, which is why I am in favour of perfectly simple tricks that help us always look good. Let me start with the hair.
I don’t use a blow-dryer
I take a lot of time to take care of my hair and am very excited by masks, which I treat myself to once or twice a week. Since my hair is long, I prefer them to be extremely soft, so I avoid any difficulties combing them. A good quality conditioner is a basic necessity, of course, and I oftentimes leave it in for 15 minutes to allow it to really take effect. I never use a blow-dryer, I just find it unnecessary. I first use a towel to remove all the water, I then pull the hair back from my face and wait for it to dry by itself. This is also why I don’t wash my hair in the morning, especially if I know there isn’t enough time. I like the fact that washing my hair is a beauty routine, a half hour only to myself, during which I can do so many other things. My favourite product: Moroccanoil hair mask.
Two or three different foundations
Only one just isn’t enough because of uneven pigmentation on our face, and we all know that the nose and chin need to be a bit lighter. Another thing: don’t overdo the foundation. I rarely use it on my forehead, I don’t feel it’s necessary, because my skin is clear. What I emphasize is the highlighter; absolutely imperative underneath the eyes, to make you look well rested. My foundations: Born this way Too Faced, Urban decay Skin Naked and Collistar fondotina+correttore.
Blush duo: light pink and bronze
I always use this, most of the time the combination of pink and bronze. While pink is more useful in the wintertime, and bronze more in the Summer, I often also use bronze during the winter, especially when I’m wearing something brown or in very light colours. I don’t overdo it and I don’t apply it all the way to the temples. There is no need, just focus on the cheeks. Since blush is never that long lasting, I retouch again after lunch. This way my makeup looks fresh again at least until eight o’clock in the evening. Top choice for all occasions: The Balm Betty ‒ Lou manizer.
Face serum
I never leave home without applying it. At my age it’s crucial to keep the skin beautiful and healthy, and to me the serum is ideal to use under the foundation. If I have a million errands to run, I’m stressed out and my skin gets a bit more shiny, I just use the serum without the cream, it suffices. To make it even more effective, I keep it in the fridge; this way it wakes me up instantly, even more than coffee! My face serum: Clarins Supra Serum Lift Remodelant.
All shades of brown
The nude palettes are always my best friends. I use the ones that include white and bronze. I use the white underneath the eyebrows and the bronze in the centre of the eyelid, where it brings out the colour of the eyes. I find that nude palettes are the perfect travel companion, because one little box contains everything you need. I just add a black pencil and mascara and I’m ready. Brown can be used with light as well as dark eyes, the results are always flawless and are also easy to achieve, because the natural tones demand less practice. I warmly advise the Smashbox or Too Faced palette.
Lips: nude or dark
There is also the red, which I adore, but there is a lot of dark violet making a statement this winter. This suits me perfectly, because it brings out the whiteness of the teeth and instantly emphasises the lips, which I like. I always use a lip contour pencil with the dark colours, and a lip gloss with the lighter shades. I won’t go into the fact that I always carry lipstick in my handbag, but I really do believe that it makes a world of a difference. I never use them sparingly! My favourite dark lipsticks come from Tom Ford, and while I don’t have any specific preferences with lip gloss, I do love glitter.
Nail polish
I am usually on the run and really don’t have time for five layers of nail polish. That is why I prefer the intensive ones that dry quickly and have a wide brush, to make the application fast. I never, ever forget about the base coat, because I often change colours and I want to avoid staining the nails. I do my nails in the evening, when the dishes are clean and everything is in its place. Always keep in mind that the nail polish needs a good half hour to stay beautiful, and make no excuses: it needs 30 minutes to itself. My top choice: Nails inc.
Hand oil or cream
Let me finish with hand care. Especially in the winter time, but actually always. If the skin on your hands is dry, go with the oil, I find it most efficient. Personally, I like the Heaven SOS oil, which always soothes the skin and isn’t too oily. It’s mostly meant for the face, but it’s literally magic on the hands.
