If you’re a fan of shorts, I guess you have a full arsenal of the summertime staple ready at your beck and call. The only problem is that styling the same type of apparel can get tiresome, as you are less and less inspired to venture past your go-to looks. With summer upon us, it’s time to bust out of the mold and add a few more shorts outfits to the rotation.
Nowadays, you won’t be shunned by the townsfolk for showing your knees at the office, but the rules of business casual dressing for the office can still feel hard to pin down. For example, wearing shorts to work in the summer: Is it appropriate? If you wear shorts to work, will you burst into flames as soon as you swipe your keycard? Take a breath and let me explain. Unless your company has an explicit dress code that forbids shorts or requires you to wear a uniform, summer shorts for work are most likely fine. In fact, you can apply many of the same “rules” you’d use for skirts to shorts in terms of length and fit. You can also choose the same lightweight summer fabrics, such as linen and cotton blends, while silk may be case-by case.
High-waisted shorts are characterized by a waistband that sits at or above your natural waistline. They have been a popular style for several years because they can create the illusion of longer legs and a smaller waist, and are flattering on many body types. Because the shorts are high-waisted, it’s often most flattering to choose a top that can be tucked in or that hits right at the waistline to avoid disrupting the lengthening effect of the shorts. An elegant blouse, or a simple white one, is always a good choice!
My style is as follows: blouse and shorts Chicwish, flats Tory Burch, bag Aldo, rings Macy and Sezane, brown bracelet Maja Maras (ou can find her on Instagram @majamaras).
