They never really went out of fashion, so it’s no surprise that they’re trendy again. Polka dots are a timeless pattern, just like nautical style, and we’re happy to wear dots, because they’re elegant, playful, romantic and summery. They are not limited only for the warm season, because we can start wearing them now. Polka dot dress, blouse, pants, all are appropriate and welcome.
Black and white is the most classic combination, of course, and that always works well. Personally, I’m also for stronger colors and fabrics: red, blue, pink, yellow, brown (which always reminds me of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman). A maxi dress is a must, we style it with sandals and as soon as spring starts, you can wear it with sneakers and a leather jacket. Capri pants are also a good option or a more comfortable, looser fit, it’s a matter of taste. Personally, I prefer a tailored fit, because it defines the figure much better, so they’re sexier, especially in polka dot version! Another must have piece is a silk blouse, which you can style with either jeans or elegant high waist pants.
Polka dots are ideal for the office, because they seem classic, yet never outdated. Even if we decide on a combination with pearls, the look will be fresh, just like a little black dress, which is always a safe bet. That’s why I believe they’re a good investment and if you take a good look at renowned labels’ summer collections, you’ll quickly realize they all have at least a few polka dot pieces or sets. The wedding season is around the corner and you may be invited to attend: a polka dot dress is a good solution, as are polka dot pants and a bow blouse; put on a pair of high heels and a small handbag and you’re ready. Even if you’re the mother of the bride or groom, it’s a lovely solution; do opt for light shades instead of black, which is a big no at a wedding.
And as I look at all these pictures, I can only say that I am already halfway on vacation!

Yes, you can wear the hottest trends! Love the polka dots everywhere!
While the pattern is normally associated with vintage-inspired clothes that can skew cheesy or twee, it doesn’t have to look that way if you choose wisely. Keep it current: a fun wrap dress or trendy off-the-shoulder top does the trick. Or look for simple shapes like an A-line skirt or well-cut pants to make a basic feel fresh again. And you don’t have to stick to the classic black-and-white combination either — there are plenty of of fun color options out there.
Last year saw the revival of many retro prints. First up, it was gingham, and then polka dots invaded the high street, and they’re still going very strong when looking into S/S 18. The once old-fashioned spotty print has been given a makeover, thanks to the likes of Ganni, Zara and DVF, while the street style set has given the look a new lease on life.
You might think that it’s a really summery print, but I have plenty of outfit ideas for how you can wear it in winter too
