Everything goes with everything! That’s what fashion dictates, so we can look forward to new textures, colors and patterns, which are about to overflow our summer wardrobes. The explosion of happiness is immense and fashion would like to follow suit. To be ironic, playful, feminine. So get ready for florals, dots, stripes, prints and all the other patterns that fuse together, even if it seems like they clash at first glance. The end result will be crazy enough for us to love it. Don’t think we’re saying goodbye toflamingos or pineapples, and the combination of gold and white is also staying put, even Boho gets a place of its own in this happy confusion, indeed.
It all became clear, when I was at the Etrofashion show: the more confused I got, the more I loved it, or perhaps that’s just a trick that one develops with age, who knows! Either way, it’s an interesting outburst of patterns, which keep intertwining and branching out endlessly. If we know how to wear them and acquire the right amount of confidence, we’re set! I always say it’s helpful to find a great combination on Pinterest or in a fashion catalogue; it’s the stylists that often inventthe right combinations, which will definitely work. Sometimes, you have to push yourself a bit outside your comfort zone and simply try out something new.
A great moment to indulge in this color therapy is when you’re feeling down, because it works without exception! A smiling face takes care of everything else and becomes the new fashion accessory. I know, I know, you just want to know, what goes with what and how to best style this whirpool of, well, everything. It’s difficult to find the common denominator, perhaps just this one bit of wisdom: If you’re playing around with patterns, then don’t exaggerate the colors, and vice versa. But then, almost every picture in this article goesagainst this rule and I still think the stylings are lovely. Remember that florals always go with stripes, if they’re same or similar shade. You can also play around with the size of flowers, but keep the color similar. Tartan plays an important part, so don’t forget about it: include it in your outfits, but opt for a pastel version, because it’s more summery.
You should know that the summer enables us to wear crazier outfits and allows us to experiment more. What seems almost impossible in wintertime, is perfectly doable in the warm season. So, are you brave enough?

Take notice of the size of the prints you’re working with. Pair a smaller print with a larger print (think thin stripes with bold florals) and vice versa (delicate polka dots with a substantial ikat print). Varying print scales will keep your outfit looking interesting instead of too busy.
Another idea on how to successfully mix prints and patterns is all about repetition. Try making a whole outfit out of different stripes or nothing but polka dots together.
Start with the naturals and build up to bolder prints as you get more confident.
I have one rule that serves me best when I mix prints and patterns: keep colors cohesive.
