You can slowly start reducing black from your wardrobe … Slowly, because colours are so in this cold season that our wardrobe is turning into a rainbow. It’s difficult to say, which shades prevail, because street fashion has been very clear about one thing: everything can go with everything. This means we can happily mix different patterns and colours without fearing opinions of others, because there are practically no limits. Dots, stripes, florals, army colours, as well as various fabrics, such as tulle, silk, polyester, leather: it all blends together, becoming one thing. This of course begs a practical question: how to style and wear this fashion chaos, which seems so demanding at first glance? Let’s take a look at some options.
There are quite a few far out pieces you can wear, which will help you start having fun with this trend. Animal print is the top choice for accessories (mostly handbags and shoes): even when you’re wearing a colourful blouse, something monochromatic, jeans, a suit, or florals, animal print is a welcome addition that won’t age you. A printed bomber jacket is a good choice for several reasons: it’s fashionable, it will keep you warm, the model is hip, and if you opt for an outrageous colour or a print (there has to be a sign on the back), you will be noticed. Dress: this one might be the most multifunctional, because you can style it with faux-fur or a coat in the winter, and wear in separately in the summer.
Don’t underestimate faux-fur: there will be a lot of it this winter, and it’s the pop colours we’re crazy about. So pink, yellow, green, blue: at first they seem loud and demanding, but they’re fun pieces that can complement your wardrobe nicely. Plaid trousers or a skirt are a good idea and it doesn’t have to be a black and white version, you can opt for something more wild, and style it with a black turtleneck, or a sweater that is colour coordinated with the bottom. I can’t go past electric colours, such as royal blue or emerald green; even though these colours are lively, they become quite elegant in combination with black or white. You can also play around with an interesting accessory in this case, such as a statement necklace, which will make you very fashionable and urban. Considering the coat season is upon us, my advice would be to buy a colourful one instead of the traditionally black or brown. After all, the coat is the first thing we notice about a person in the wintertime, so it should say something about their style and spirit.
All in all: street fashion has lots of gorgeous things in store, most of all colours and mixing patterns. You need a touch of good taste, of course, but most of all don’t be afraid to use Pinterest or the multitude of websites with street style pictures as an inspiration, because “It” girls have the style down to a T, and can be quite creative with their dare to experiment. Don’t forget, colours are a source of good mood and tend to energize us, so do use them, you won’t regret it.
