Every woman has her own style and I believe we all follow fashion trends in our own way, some more than others, undoubtedly depending on our means and personal interest. Even if we despise fashion altogether, there is still a part of our brain that senses beauty. Just as a beautiful man is just a beautiful man, so is a woman, a beautiful store window display or a beautifully set plate of food. Beauty is beautiful and it’s what attracts us. When I think about fashion, I am aware it can provide nearly anything, but I remain true to my style, because I know that is when I feel best. This time we’ll take a look at the things that make sure I look elegant and in harmony with the world, which in my opinion is partly a result of smart fashion combinations.
I daydream
Some things are bound to be unattainable, but that doesn’t mean I’m about to slam the door in their face, far from it. I was just checking out this Elie Saab suit yesterday and a ridiculously expensive piece of jewellery often catches my eye. I think I remember all of these things and I often find something similar later at a different store, and at a much more affordable price, of course. The great designers always inspire fashion industry, even the ready-to-wear brands. There are no shoes like Jimmy Choos, but I make an effort to find models that aren’t as expensive, and yet look similar, an most of all comfortable to wear. You should know we pay a large part of the price for the brands, and yet good quality leather shoes don’t necessarily cost a fortune.
Elegance is a mix of classic, sporty, and extraordinary
Classic pieces are the ones we’ve been seeing around for the past fifty years, and haven’t changed one bit. Just look at Coco Chanel’s or Audrey’s wardrobe and you’ll see what I mean ‒ their pieces are still fashionable today, and need no accessories or new interpretations. Sporty mostly comes from the States, where women spend the better part of their days on their feet and have a unique sense of style: they wear the same thing to the office, as they do in the evening, all they do is add some nice jewellery and high heels, and voila. I appreciate this type of sporty style. Unusual pieces are often the ones we spend the most on, they bring the extraordinary part to the mix; mine consist of a Chloe bag, Charlotte Olympia sandals, Stella McCartney lingerie, Tiffany jewellery, to name a few. When you put all of these elements together in the right way, it results in elegance.
Pay attention to special details
Shoes, bags, belts, and jewellery: you never leave the house without them, and they have the ability to completely transform a wardrobe. Opt for these small, big pieces, because they’re the ones making sure you’re stylish and stand out. Not long ago, I was wearing a dark blue velvet dress, that looked just like another dress without a belt, but when I styled it with a simple black elastic belt with large stones in black and gold, it instantly turned into a red carpet ensemble. Same goes for jeans and a T-shirt: I style it with large earrings, pull up my hair, and I actually start feeling better. Shoes, whether they’re flat or high heels, are another chapter in the story: I opt for unusual models, because they make sure I feel great, and I like the way they change really basic outfits. Animal print, for instance, is lovely on shoes and bags, but I don’t care for it much on jackets or dresses, because I find it too loud. I suppose it’s a matter of taste, because some women can pull it off quite well.
