The once forgotten knitwear is now reigning thecatwalks and they will be a key component of every fashion lover’s wardrobe. The fall-winter shows made it more than obvious that jumpers and cardigans are the basic pieces that will infuse the coming cold months with the righ amount of warmth. We love it, because it’s oversized, comfortable, soft and it comes in wonderful colors, which aren’t necessarily dark, because this winter is going to be playful. Fashion suggests we even wear them with very elegant pieces, such as a leather skirt, a midi skirt or high waist pants, which is partly why some knitted models are rather short, so the waist stays visible. Cable knit, peplum knit, stripy, chunky, oversized sleeves or even shortsleeves: knitpieces are must-have.
Dior made knitwear the canvas for their feminist manifesto and displayedall the Nos women want to shout out loud and all the things we will have to rigorously repeat on our way to a total emancipation; they even have peace and love signs to conjure up and bring back the revolutionary spirit that was present in 1968. Wool sweaters are also the warm ally on Lacoste runways (cable knits embellished by high collars or oak leaves on jacquard); Prada made rhombs into a vintage inspired graphic print, which shone from rave jackets in a contemporary post-industrial style.
And which colours will you choose? It’s hard to opt for just one, but to me perhaps all the vanilla and warm browns come to the fore, because they look so elegant and are easy to combine with either black or white. Indulge in several models, because they don’t have to cost a fortune, you can go to the nearest H&M and find many gorgeous models. They’re pretty much all oversized, so if you’re not a fan of the style, buy a size smaller. Comfortable, pleasant, appropriate for day and evening occasions: knit is the elegant piece in your cooler days wardrobe; knitwear has fashion designers hooked as well as lovers of street style. Are you ready for that extra measure of warmth?
