I wouldn’t dare write that Prada started the trend, because I’m well aware that others experimented before them, but it was Prada that made sure that some feathers would find their way into our summer wardrobe. Gentle, romantic, reminiscent of the 1920’s and the Great Gatsby ‒ feathers are an accessory I always look forward to.
I know lots of women can be sceptical and feel as though feathers can only be appropriate for evening occasions and that it may be too demanding of a look for a woman over 20. It would be a mistake to believe that, my darlings, because the right amount of feathers look quite sophisticated and elegant, so don’t think you’ll be overdressed, far from it. Longer feathers move softly and look stunning on sleeves or bags, while shorter ones embellish sandals and jackets. In combination with glitter it looks perfect and mostly appropriate for evening occasions, but you can also opt exclusively for feathery accessories, such as hair bands, bags or sandals. These, with a low heel and feathers, are are the biggest novelty, which adds a fresh and playful note to your everyday summer wardrobe.
There are many varieties of feathers, some are artificial, others not. The Prada collection has some great pieces we can draw inspiration from; personally, I’m in love with the feathery ends of powder silk dresses, where the two tones almost always match. Although, there are some contrasting versions, which certainly steal more attention. Take a look at the feather tops, because you can style them with elegant trousers or simply with jeans; this provides an excellent contrast that you’ll love. I have to mention the slip-on sandals that have no heel-strap, they’re reminiscent of the kitten heel bedrrom slippers, so wonderfully retro and sultry … Granted, they’re not the most comfortable or practical to walk in, but we can still wear them every once in a while, for a special event.
If the whole feather wave didn’t catch your fancy, then give accessories a try: an evening handbag is a must-have, and don’t worry, you’ll wear it a lot. Opt for basic tones: white, black, beige or nude, and your investment will return. Fashion includes these bags in everyday looks with jeans and sporty, even cargo pants. If you have a pair of glittery sneakers, know that your look will be nicely completed. I’m not sure I persuaded you, but I hope you’ll give this trend a chance, because it really is quite intriguing.
Whimsical fashion, what else can I say …

If your feathery focal point is a clutch, embellished shoes, or a necklace, then you can incorporate coloured feathers in small doses.
It’s an amazing trend!
To avoid looking like Big Bird, choose neutral coloured feathers.
While they may seem flamboyant, there are many ways to wear feathers without coming across as garish.
If this is a trend you’re willing to take up, it’s important to know how to wear feathers in a tasteful manner. Prada rules!
