There are so many, I sometimes get the feeling that we’re all going to turn into blooming gardens in a couple of weeks! Floral patterns provide a number of options, whether they’re oversized or small, boho or elegant, colourful or black and white, but the fact remains, every single brand has lots of florals, so it’s helpfull to know, how to style them.
Style them with white
Because white is the colour of the summer and it always comes in handy. A white blouse will look spectacular with a pair of floral jeans, and a floral T-shirt will look gorgeous with a pair of white jeans. A similar rule applies to dresses: opt for a floral model and style it with a white blazer. It’s all about finding the balance between the simplicity of a solid colour, such as white, and a rich floral pattern. Although similar is true for black, but since we’re talking about a hot summer season, it seems more appropriate to opt for lighter shades, because they’re easier to work with once the outside temperature rises.
Opt for basic accessories
A floral pattern is rich in iself, so it doesn’t need much else additionally. While it’s true that we can see various combinations on the runway, we all know that real life is a different matter, and overdoing it happens all too quickly. So opt for basic jewellery, and monochromatic sandals and bags; that is the safest way to go. You can play around with colourful jewellery, but only if you’re wearing a simple block-colour T-shirt or top, which gives the jewellery some distance from the busy pattern of the pants or skirt.
Style prints with prints
I admit, this is a risky area, because these sorts of combinations demand a certain degree of skill, but then again, practice makes perfect, doesn’t it? Focus on the colour and forget about the print; so if you’re wearing a blouse with pink flowers, you can style it with another piece that also has pink dots or stirpes. This principle works best, when you have several floral pieces in different colours. Just pick one and let the colour repeat itself in a different print. The visuals will be excellent, and not in the least chaotic. It may take some courage, but I believe the summer is perfect for a fashion experiment.
Maxi dress is a must-have
Simply because it seems 100 % summery and brings out the right amount of the boho-style vibe. You’ll wear it with flat sandals and even if it’s full of flowers, that’s ok, you’ll still be ready for any occasion. Mind the size of the print: if you have a couple extra pounds, the flowers should be smaller, which will help achieve an optically narrower figure. Other than that, you can do anything you feel like, even florals for an evening occasion, with a black or white blazer, high heels and a smal bag. looks like we’re going to turn into real-life forrest fairies, and I’m looking forward to it!
