Six steps to style and improved self esteem

My darlings, I could have written another 100 tips, but you know so much already. If fashion is giving you a hard time, occasionally, that’s simply because it can be overbearing sometimes and then it loses its fun side, so don’t let that happen. Consider it your good friend and always trust it’s here, because it aims to make our lives more beautiful. That’s its primary function, after all: making us beautiful. I gathered some advice that I find useful in creating good style. It’s not revolutionary, but rather simple guidelines we often forget, so it’s good to write them down.

Have a wonderful attitude toward your clothes

Have them, because you sincerely like them and because they make your life better. Make sure they’re clean, ironed, hole-free, nicely folded, and in the end, it won’t even mater, whether you bought them in H&M or Zara, or whether they have a Dolce&Gabbana tag, because it won’t make a difference. Your attitude toward fashion and the items you keep in your closet, say everything about you. I always scold myself, when my closet is too full and the pieces can’t breathe. It seems I’m doing them a great injustice and so it’s no wonder thatI open the closet and get depressed. It’s my own fault. The attitude is key, in people as well as in fashion, keep that in mind and don’t forget that.

Try Boho and femininity

It’s a trend that can look strange at first sight, but only because it’s reminiscent of the past and the 70’s were undoubtedly very, very special. And yet Boho style is much more than that, it’s what emphasizes your femininity, makes you even more beautiful, more confident and makes you finally wear dresses. Don’t forget, you’re a woman first and foremost, and the world should notice you. Fashion can be of big help here: flowers, lace, tulle, maxi skirts, midi dresses, kimonos, high waist, natural leather, all of these are elements that will always have your back.

Don’t get too alternative

You know, how it is, fashion has already explored so many different styles, it’s hard for us to come up with something entirely original. Just look at Gaultier and you’ll quickly see that everything has already been tried. It’s sometimes best to stick to the norms or at least to classics, which should not, however, be boring. Always add a detail to round the look, but it doesn’t mean you have to dye your hair red or start wearing disco platform shoes, far from it. Sophistication, my darlings, sophistication.

Know your basic pieces

It all starts with them. Blazer, jeans, white shirt, the little dress (not necessarily black), skirt and high waist trousers, leather accessories (belt, shoes), the “it”  bag. That is what you need to have, it’s kind of like coffee in the morning. After that, you can add anything you want, but the basics remain the same. With them, you’ll never miss and you’ll always be women with style. So don’t mix trends, don’t experiment too much, don’t think you know more that Coco, because you don’t. I’m sorry, but that is the truth.

Keep fashion accessories close

Sunglasses, drop earrings, statement rings, a few bracelets. It’s great, if you can wear them simultaneously, but don’t start mixing metals, because that’s not okay. Decide on a single style and stick to it, even if it’s plain pearls, which are always elegant. It’s great, if you like Boho style jewelry, because it’s flamboyant. If you prefer minimalism in your clothes, then at least play around with details and jewelry, so the look  isn’t bland.

Read, search, be curious

There is one thing that gets on my nerves and there aren’t many: it’s those who know everything. There is actually not one person that does, and yet there are many people who believe they don’t have to read up on, look, search, because when it comes to fashion, they’re the deal. Big mistake. Fashion is constantly changing, as it has shown us so many faces throughout the years that we stopped counting. So get new books, look at what’s new online, keep buying fashion magazines and be informed. It’s not just the ever changing trends, but the attitude and respect you show toward fashion. And if you treat it with attention that it deserves it’ll be wonderful to you in return.
