Researcher Mary Lynn Damhorst says “dress is a systematic means of transmission of information about the wearer.” A person’s choice of clothing can heavily influence the impression they transmit and is therefore a powerful communication tool. When it comes to communicating confidence and ability, what you wear plays an important role in creating positive first impressions. Whether you agree with the statement or not, clothes make the man. Or at least others’ perception of the man, science shows. Of course I agree, that fashion can help us to find the right Me and the best Self, but from the other side I always suggest to start with confidence. Building our confidence is something we can learn, is self-trust in your skills, choices, and values. It comes from within yourself and feels like an inner knowing of your strengths and weaknesses while still thinking positively about yourself.
We present and express something about ourselves with our clothing and accessories – that’s the external influence. We also have an internal influence that shapes our mood and emotions, that shapes our self-esteem and also has a cognitive function. This hasn’t been very well-known until recently. There are a myriad studies that have appeared in the last five years connecting appearance to abilities and acceptance. If you believe them, you’d be obliged to think that people who wear high-top running shoes are standoffish, while those who favour bright, colourful sneakers are more emotionally stable. These are the results from a University of Kansas study in 2012, which examined the link between footwear and personality.
While many people often have a strong sense of confidence as a child, life often throws curve balls that can diminish confidence. Low self-confidence can feel like being unable to handle other people’s criticisms or difficulty trusting yourself and others. The great thing is, every moment is a chance to build evidence toward your self-confidence. To make up for what was lost, you can rebuild confidence over time through small and large moments that ladder up toward more self-trust. We’re continually awaiting the next thing in our lives, and that can be one of the aspects that disrupt our inner calm. Inner peace is the state of calm you feel within yourself. The world around you could be stress-inducing and chaotic, but if you feel calm, you might be experiencing inner peace. It’s an achievable state of mind that has more to do with your mind than what’s happening in your daily life.
One thing that i do often is to wear white, because this color can lift your mood by promoting confidence. White is one of the few colours that is easy to match with most outfits and also never goes out of fashion, especially in the summer sunshine or when the weather si fine. It is perfect when you need some new space to think or make a decision: white is bright and can create a sense of space or add highlights. Designers often use the color white to make rooms seem larger and more spacious. Let me add some pearls: wearing them helps to calm restlessness, anxiety and control anger. It is also believed that people who wear pearls feel more connected to their creativity. Due to their feminine vibration, pearls have a strong connection with the Moon and are beneficial for women who suffer mood swings during their menstrual cycle.
As you can see elegance is a mettere of many different factors: what you wear, inner peace, confidence and self trust. These will never go out of style!
