Jimmy Choo, the famous luxury brand, came into existence thanks to a designer and master shoemaker, who specialised in custom-made shoes. He emerged out in London’s East End in the 90’s, and won over elite society all over the world, including Princess Diana. The Jimmy Choo brand was founded in 1996 by Tamara Mellon, the accessories editor at British Vogue at the time. She was brilliant at defining the opportunity. Appealing shapes, fashionable design, and superior craftsmanship were the key selling points for the high-end clientele and the first collection was an immediate success. The brand was one of the first that ventured into Hollywood with its’ shoes and bags, because it turned out the red carpet could be used as an excellent runway. Today, Jimmy Choo tends to fashion icons: from stars to members of royal families, from musicians to even presidents.
Each year, the summer collection includes refined sandals with a narrow high heel. This year’s spring-summer line of sandals goes perfectly with the new line of bags. The sandals are made of matte leather and suede in classic black and beige. Also noteworthy, the floral pumps in two versions: with a single ankle strap or with gladiator style lacing. Sandals in dark or light colour with pastel stones adorning the straps are another great look, they also come in white, which is ideal for brides-to-be.
Telling the story about the Jimmy Choo tradition is not an easy task, because the items bearing this brand have become a real fetish. So, let’s start with Sandra Choi, born on the Wight island. She had lived in Hong Kong for several years before moving to London to graduate. The famous designer Jimmy Choo took her on as an apprentice in his East End’s high-end fashion atelier. Meanwhile, British Vogue editor Tamara Yeardye Mellon realised that no sandals in existence combine these three qualities: comfort, aesthetics, and elegance. She got in touch with Jimmy Choo and they started an alliance which is now an eminent brand. They opened their first London boutique in 1997. Mellon gave it her all, and when she managed to introduce the brand into Hollywood, they were set. And by now, everyone is crazy about Jimmy Choos.
The shoes have also conquered the small- and big screens: actresses in the cult series Sex and the City wore them, in the movie In Her Shoes Cameron Diaz stole them from her sister. Other celebrities adore them as well, such as Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
