Baby blue happens to be one of my favourite colours, so it’s no wonder I’ve got my eyes on the gorgeous Ralph Lauren ensemble that Melania Trump wore to an occasion as important as moving into the White house. She looked simply flawless. Some critics compared her choice with Jackie O’s style, and it’s true that the latter often wore this colour, however, the more evil tongues focused instead on similarity to the Harry Potter character. Either way, I think the First lady was indeed elegant and sophisticated, and the very high heels on her stilettos gave additional emphasis to her fit physique and model posture. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t get to see her up close, but I still believe the baby blue was perfectly matched to her eyes. And how are we supposed to style this shade in everyday life?
I would opt for a coat, and I actually have one, a sweater and a bag. I admit, I never get bored of this colour. In my opinion, it is a very wearable winter piece, because the colour goes great with jeans, as well as dark blue which is often a notable part of winter wardrobes. One thing is obvious about this shade: you can wear it with every other shade of blue, which can often make you go blue from head to toe, just like in Melania’s choice, all the way to the gloves, which rounded up her look beautifully. Tres chic!
I also love blazers or short jackets, even boucle ones that bring Chanel’s timeless fashion to mind. Baby blue can be very elegant, so opt for a dress a special occasion dress (even velvet or open back). I also admire a baby blue pleated skirt, or a basic sweater either with a high or regular neckline. These are all pieces you should have no problem incorporating into your wardrobe, they’re simple to style, but the colour makes them stand out. Same goes for accessories: a bag or shoes in this shade are a must have, you won’t regret buying them, because as we’ve said, they look great with jeans, which are nowdays a staple piece of our wardrobe.
You can also opt for a basic baby blue shirt, slightly reminiscent of a men’s shirt, but with a sexy note that makes sure there’s femininity. If you prefer a more avantgarde look, try a tulle skirt: this material still boasts a heavy presence and it’s the way to go for a special occasion, because we associate it with the elegance of ballet dancers. Pointed toe ballet flats can be interesting, as well as a narrow belt … In a nutshell, there is no garment or accessory that will not come alive with a little help of this colour. I am grateful for Melania’s style lesson, which will help the wave of pastels reach further, and the winter will be so much more interesting, if we treat it to something soft and light.
How about you? Have you decided on your favourite piece in baby blue yet?
