The weekend is here (hurray!), so I was thinking about what, alongside good relationships, walks in the forest, the smell of fresh snow, and a peaceful home, actually make me happy … It’s the small things, and sometimes bigger ones, that keep me in balance and make me feel happy inside. I never forget that happiness is in my own hands, not my partner’s, parents’ or friends’, which is why it’s so important that we take charge of our own better life and harmony, with the means that are given to us. So, what follows is my own very personal happy list with rituals that define me.
Jewellery as good luck charms. I believe that every stone that we wear on our fingers, around our neck, or on our wrists, want to tell its’ story. There are also different stones to wear at different times in our life, and it’s no wonder that some of them remain or companions for longer periods, while others change in more rapid intervals. It’s nice to get jewellery as a present, of course, but I think it’s just as wonderful, if we treat ourselves to a piece now and then. When you find a designer or a brand that you adore 100%, we usually want the entire collection. It happened to me with Monica Vinader: initials, moon stone, shimmering, and thoughtful design are right up my alley. Every piece in her collection makes me feel really good and so they’re a pleasure to wear, because I believe they will bring good things my way.
Set of wonderful creams. Every time I pamper my body and face, I feel like I’m pampering my soul as well. I’m doing something for myself, and I firmly believe that our outer appearance is closely connected to our inner self, and the other way around. We are, what we say, we look the way we feel, and if we are beautiful on the inside, in our hearts, we are also beautiful on the outside, in a physical way. I try to keep the balance, which is not the easiest thing in this modern life, but I still try. And there are times, when a good cream or face mask helps. Some of my favourites: Heaven, Bobbi Brown, and Star Skin. Nope, I can’t just pick one, because it depends on the way I feel, and what my body is telling me in that moment.
Favourite chocolates. As the ambassador for Baci Perugina chocolates, I can only say they’re not only good, with a taste that you keep going back to, but they also come with a love note that in a way becomes your motto of the day. You know, like a good-morning cup of coffee, Bacio (meaning a kiss, in Italian) comes with an intimate message, just for you. I love this game of discovering hidden messages, and I enjoy the wonderful words I then put safely away between the pages of my diary. The only problem is, I have a hard time stopping myself, because each Bacio calls for another, and so the kisses become infinite. But, you know, there can never be enough kisses anyway!
Lingerie set. To me, there is nothing better than the feeling of lace against my skin and a new lingerie set, just for me. Especially, when I’m not in the greatest mood or I feel less than my best, new lingerie is like a gift for my soul, and there can never be enough. Every woman should have a few lingerie sets, chemises, bodysuits and similar garments, not just to please their partner, far from it, they should have them mostly for themselves. It’s a gentle way of showing respect to yourself, and saying “You are one of a kind, and I love you” in between the lines. Isn’t that a lovely thing to do?
Perfume for seduction. I am completely enthralled by Aerin Lauder, I am now her fiercest ally. This is a matter of my personal choice and taste, of course, but I do believe that every woman has her own favourite perfume. It’s usually the one making us feel beautiful, sexy, and unattainable in a way. I like the cloud of scent following me around, when I brush my hair or move around the apartment. And I love it when somebody says “I knew it was you, because I “sensed your smell”. Perfume is like a personalised seal ‒ a mark, an accessory that says loads about your personality.
Dear readers, enjoy the weekend, perhaps with the help of the little-big things that can make you happier.
