Gucci had placed its stamp of approval on the fruit print trend for 2019, making it just one of the many brands serving up the fresh print to fashion lovers this season. You may be shaking your head, thinking to yourself that this isn’t a 2019 trend. And you’d be half right. Vogue dubbed fruit prints as the biggest trend of summer 2018, and Refinery29 the year before that — and so on, so forth. But, dare it be said, 2019 has put its own spin on it. Lemons, strawberries, cherries, avocados, cranberries, even bananas, watermelons and much more are becoming cute dresses, blouses and hight waisted trends. But, well, is this trend useful for the office? Is it elegant and appropriate for every woman?
While florals are always in during the warmer months, this season we’re looking for a cool-girl alternative. Fruit prints are the right decision and something we have to try, even on a swimsuit. Fruits are about to be in high demand during the hot season – and we’re not referring to those you can pick up at the local supermarket. Nope, these fruits are a la mode, designer-approved. Gucci pushes the envelope in maximalism once again, and everything from bags to clutches and pants were garnished with look-at-me strawberry prints. Altuzarra had a couple of glossy pink co-ords that brimmed with paillettes and pastures of berry-esque flowers. And we’d leave it to Thom Browne to really go all out; This show was bananas! Whether they came as gigantic bejewelled headgear, vibrantly printed on coats or in some extreme cases, dressing the face of the models, these fruits are fully ripe for the picking.
The trick to making fruit prints look chic and not clownish? Keeping the rest of your outfit fairly restrained. For example, try teaming one of summer’s cheeky fruit-emblazoned silky blouses with a pair of broken-in denim shorts and a simple summer flat. What’s more, if styled correctly, that same fruit print blouse can work well into fall when worn with slim jeans and paired with a flat-knit a black sweater. From beach bags embroidered with cartoon citruses to Beyonce-style lemons, fruits seem to be on everyone’s mind. These vibrant-colored foods are the exact eye candy we need once temperatures finally heat up.
