Recently I had an amazing vacation in Tuscany and it is quite difficult to describe my feelings. Well, first of all this Italian region is just amazing, wherever you go it takes your breath away and Porto Ercolo is just one of the beautiful, precious pearls you can find there. The small town, near by the sea, is full of tourists. They’re here for a coffee, of course, but also to buy cheese and prosciutto for lunch, maybe grab some fizzy water and a few Peronis for the fridge. And I met also a very cool group of American girls with moms and small kids, struggling around to find the right shop and make some good shopping. It is not difficult to find charming places and good fashion pieces, but you have to know that in this part of Italy everything is closed until 5 PM; they have a kind of long siesta, during which they just sit down, drink wine, admire the see and listen at the numerous seagulls. A kind of La dolce vita, can you imagine it?
Rocky cliffs, Spanish fortresses, the azure sea and pretty ports. Everyone has been to Tuscany. But what they often mean is they have been to Florence. Or the chianti. Or maybe Lucca. When you come as far down as Monte Argentario, where we are just thirty minutes drive to the border of Lazio, it’s a very different Tuscany. You are much closer to Rome (1.5 hours away) than Florence (2.5 hours away), after all. This part of Italy is like a bit of a secret.
The Hotel Torre di Cala Piccola is located in the middle of the Argentario encircled by a natural universe of extraordinaire beauty. Beyond the amazing dovetailing with the swimming establishment of the Hotel Torre di Cala Piccola, the Argentario boasts of beaches among the most beautiful in all of Italy. The Tomboli of Feniglia and Giannella at Orbetello are perfect for family outings because the crystal-clear, shallow waters are particularly safe for children.
The Cala Grande, the spotless Cala del Gesso, with its cobalt and pebble bottom, and the Cannelle, favored by scuba divers and snorkelers, are truly striking beaches where you can enjoy hours of relaxation basking in the Tuscan sun. The hotel’s panoramic positioning offers a 360° wondrous view of the cliffs of the Cala, the sea, and the islands of Il Giglio and Giannutri. Here you will imbibe on a veritable paradise that will be pleasing to your eyes and will assuage your mind. The only dissonance you will be able to perceive during your stay will be the outcries of the seagulls and the marine winds gently blowing upon the coast.
It was amazing to swim in the open air, under the limpid sky of the Argentario, without ever realizing where the swimming pool ends and the sea begins! You will experience a dizzy spell that will amaze you. But don’t worry… that’s what happens when you stay here. I just hope to get back as soon as possible and, of course, I sincerely recommend you this place. Least but not last the restaurant is fabulous and the breakfast is stunning, with a breath taking view of the sea, that will remain in your mind and heart forever. Yes, I know, I am a lucky girl!
