One life is not enough

Kind words and light rain find their way everywhere. Recently, when I was on my way home, it started to rain. The thick and sharp drops created a mist above me, icy and wonderful at the same time, glittering in the street lights, blurry and almost mystical, because rain has a magical note; water is a symbol of purification and cleanliness, that very moment, when we are faced with only ourselves and not even clothes can protect us from nature. Every time it starts raining so heavily, I remember my friend’s words “It’s only water falling from the sky, there’s no need to hurry, you’ll get soaked either way. So it’s better to enjoy walking even if you’re getting wet, I think it could be useful.” So, if we were less preoccupied with the weather and more focused on ourselves, we could let go now and thus enjoy the different shades of grey. Not only this: we could allow things to have a deeper impact on us, the ones that have a deeper meaning, the ones that are able to change us, and those that teach us how to dream. And maybe we could close the door on the rest of the world, the part that isn’t that significant and only operates on a superficial level, protecting ourselves from phony people and situations that require much of our energy, as if a mean tick bit right into our hearts and slowly, but relentlessly absorbed the precious lymph.

Over the years, you start to learn how to set boundaries; I think this is the key. You close a door to be able to open another. But you are never, truly never, given the opportunity to know, what is there, in the other room, or if your decision is the right one; which is why you have to activate every radar of your instinct, smell, love, use words, think and understand, what we really wish for. It seems to me that this is often a problem: we don’t know in which direction we want to go and what are the things that make us happy. Then we grow older and get the feeling that our lives are running out, and perhaps that is the moment we realise that the rules were clear from the very beginning, we just didn’t know how to listen to our hearts and consequently wasted precious time. We can be quite vain in our belief that we are eternal, while the stars, the moon and the soft clouds are looking down on us, probably having their own thoughts about us. From the bird’s eye view, from high up above, life on Earth must really be a puzzle.

I think we might often need a double life, but not in the perverse way; we would need it, because one simply isn’t enough. I like ordinary things, but the complicated rhythm of the modern life swallows me up and oftentimes at the end of the day I’m not able to tell whether I’ve helped anyone or if I’m actually even happy. Women have so many roles it’s as though we were leading acts in the most complex movie; and if we have a career and dreams that often turn into reality, it can get even more difficult. Simplicity is complex, because it’s made of details that are creatively balanced, which is furthermore a reflexion of a personal vision, and this is only understood by those, who are able to recognise its essence.

I believe a person is more creative when everything that surrounds them is in harmony with mankind. I admit, I never had to do the hard yards, at least not in the traditional sense. I do the work that I love, so it isn’t hard to go to the office or do any of the things my everyday consists of, even though they can drag on late into the night. Gratitude for everything I have and everything that is coming my way, is how I earn my living. I never take things for granted; not in love or friendship or at work, and not concerning health issues either,  because it only takes the smallest thing to turn your whole world upside down, leaving you with feet up in the air and the head just above the ocean, like you’re testing gravity. That is why I think the key is to stay focused on our goals, follow our inner Self and don’t allow anything to distract you. There will undoubtedly be a lot of people along the way that will disagree and try to make our lives hell. But it will only be a bad of an experience, as much as we allow it to be.
