In principle, the best way to wear sporty footwear is with jeans, however, not every outfit is well-chosen ‒ it depends on the length of the jeans and the shape of the sneakers. But you can also wear sneakers with skirts and dresses, especially when the warmer season is approaching and you get to show off some skin. What is of the essence in a sporty outfit, is to follow the following rule: never choose gym clothes and if you cannot resist them, always combine them with garments that work well in street fashion. So for instance choose sneakers that aren’t exactly meant for running or playing tennis but are nevertheless beautiful and appropriate for the office. There are plenty different models in stores, usually with a raised sole, some bits of contrasting colour, they can be leather or textile and they seem special at first sight. Go for distinctiveness and let a “stop and stare” effect be your guide … This is the time to forgo minimalism ‒ more is more!
Shorter, cropped jeans and invisible socks
The jeans should be shorter, either slim or cropped and comfy, same goes for boyfriend jeans. Try to find the right socks, the invisible ones, which are short and sporty. I advise you not to wear sneakers without socks, because we all know that is an uncomfortable choice and not the healthiest one either, especially in the summer, when our feet sweat more. 7 denier nylon socks are a good alternative, because they’re really thin and practically invisible.
Classical colours or super strong shades
There is no in-between, it’s all or nothing; use that as a principle. The key is to know how to wear them and feel good wearing them. Low top sneakers are the more elegant ones and more appropriate to wear with a skirt or dress, while the high tops mostly work best with trousers or jeans. You can also choose a model with some glitter, it’s a good look and noticeable enough; black glittery sneakers even make a nice evening look, for example (check out Pink’s new collection and you’ll catch the drift!). I particularly like animal prints, because they always stand out, but are not that difficult to style, so they are a welcome addition to an outfit.
Mind the skirt length!
It shouldn’t be too short and not too long; what makes it a bit more challenging is that there is a specific length for every woman, depending on her figure. If your legs are quite slender, there shouldn’t be a problem, otherwise use a mirror as a measure. I like an A-line skirt, because it looks proper and elegant, even with sneakers … Keep it wide and as colourful as possible, knee length or midi, never mini. Another great look is a shorter dress, for instance above the knees, a straight and simple cut, with sneakers.
