I almost dare say it will prevail over the white … Well, it might not get that far, but there are a lot of light blue shirts this summer and everything points to the important role they will play. The colour reminds me of Serenity, which we’ve written about several times, because it’s the colour of this year’s warm season. It’s somewhere between blue and green, very marine and vacation like, pastel and elegant: the shade has already taken over our wardrobes, blouses and shirts are no exception, so let’s take a look at the best ways to style them. I would like to add as an introduction that it’s a very wearable piece that doesn’t require too much thought, because it’s perfect with jeans and with white, so you’ll wear it more often than you imagine.
I really like the hint of sea you get from it, and it’s actually reminiscent of the shade men wear with a suit and tie. So the light blue shirt is a piece you can style with the feminine part of the wardrobe: heels, high waisted skirt, elegant trousers. Or you can match it with elegant details (such as high heels, small bag, glamorous jewellery) and wear it with basic jeans. Just to spice it up a bit, let some lace brassiere peak from underneath, just to add a touch of playfulness and sensuality that is always welcome. Wear it unbuttoned to an extent, and if you prefer a classic twist, add pearls to brighten it. Even the head to toe light blue look is not bad: try styling the light blue shirt with short or long pants, add a narrow black belt and black footwear, and you’ll be perfect.
Shirt dresses are also a nice choice, although they are somewhat more demanding, mostly because they crease quickly. I’m sure you’ll find many models in stores, some with puffed sleeves, enriched with lace or tulle, some with translucent inlays or contrasting details. They’re all derivatives of this interesting piece that will make your wardrobe up to date and trendy. You can also wear a long shirt to the beach over the bathing suit, it’s a good look that gives you a confidence boost, because it makes you feel less naked. Personally, I go for thin white stripes, which make it even more sophisticated.
And if you’re not too crazy about the classical model, do try something different, such as a bare shoulders shirt; it only matters that you stick to the light blue colour!
