You probably have a shiny piece left behind in your closet. You wore it for New Year’s or over the holidays and now it’s just sitting there, waiting for next season. As you know, glitter is very fashionable right now and we can actually wear it every day, not just for special occasions. Fashion enthusiasts have proven time and time again that daytime glitter is gorgeous and always add a touch of glamor‒not only to the outfit, but to life‒so why not? It’s clear that for some women, it’s still a taboo, they consider it too loud, kitschy and whatnot, but in truth, it’s just…pretty. Glittery. Bright. Playful and very noticeable, of course. But, my darling ladies, when, if not now?
Sparkly blazer
It’s a must-have piece and it looks amazing with jeans. It’s simple: get your jeans, a white T-shirt and a sparkly blazer, and the result will be perfect. Add a pair of high heels and a leather bag; all the better, if you wear red lipstick, but it’s not a must.
Glitter top
Wear it with a basic knit piece, a longer cardigan or underneath a smooth long black blazer for a more formal look. You can also style it with jeans, or with a suit, because the glitter top adds the outfit some drama.
Shiny pumps or bag
Two more top pieces: pumps go with everything and are appropriate for a wide variety of outfits, more so than the bag, but that doesn’t mean that the bag is meant for only evening outfits, not at all. It actually all depends on its size: if it’s not too small, you can style daytime outfits with it, but fashion has been known to turn every rule upside down, so even this one isn’t the only possible solution. A matter of your personal taste and the outfit.
Sparkly trousers
The glitter doesn’t have to cover every inch of the trousers, it can be limited to an appliqué or a lateral stripe, which is very trendy. These pants look great with a high neck sweater and sneakers; being covered in shiny bits and noticeable means the rest of the outfit can be subdued and smooth. Daytime or evening wear meets a traditional wintry style.
Midi skirt with glitter
Of all the pieces, this is the one that excites me most. Well, the blazer and pumps have their own charm…A midi skirt is sexy, very glamorous, and yet wearable. With high heels, of course, but even this is not set in stone, you can wear low footwear as well. Style it with a knit piece or a nice blouse, add a coat and you’ll look perfect. And also very in trend.

Pairing something sparkly (like say, a lurex jumper or a sequin dress) with something utilitarian, is a simple way to ensure it works for day.
Other stylish pairings to experiment with include a sequin skirt and white sneakers, or an embellished top layered over a crisp cotton shirt.
Creative director at Sonia Rykiel, Julie de Libran, sent sequin blazers and dresses down the runway in her most recent show, which far from looking like evening wear, wouldn’t have looked out of place in a sunny holiday spot.
You wouldn’t be blamed for feeling silly sidling up to the school gates in a sequined maxi dress, or for worrying about looking overdressed in glittery heels in the office, but that’s not to say there aren’t ways of incorporating sparkle into your daytime wardrobe, that more than being viable, are actually very chic.
Glitter can be worn all year long as long as you make it work.
Very true! Happy new year! 🙂
