It seems that what actually suits us is always just a matter of taste and perception. It’s very hard to talk about rules in fashion, because women have changed, 40’s are the new 30’s and youth, or at least youthfulness, often goes even farther. Timeless pieces are those that each of us has in her wardrobe; they’re sustainable and seasonless. However, we still have to mind the way we style them, because they can easily add a few years to our look, and that’s not something we strive for, isn’t it?
Elegant blouses
I hope this doesn’t seem too contradictory as I usually write about them often and You probably know by now that I adore them. Still, a super elegant lace or bow blouse may look gorgeous with a pair of jeans and a leather jacket, but it can also age us, if we wear it with a suit. It all depends on the cut of the suit, of course, but an exceedingly elegant outfit generally adds to our age, so it’s best not to take that chance.
Knee-length skirt
This is another piece we all have and wear, but still … Do you always wear it with high heels? Not really, so when we style it with flat footwear, a midi skirt makes the calves look wider and makes us look older. It’s a piece that requires stilettos, the higher the better, especially if the skirt is like the one of Victoria Beckham’s, if you know what I mean.
Nude hosiery
I could write a long piece on this topic. The shade. How can I put this … some shades remind me of a proteus, the cave amphibian found in Slovenia, and if the hosiery is 40 DEN, it really is a sight we don’t want to see. The shade matters, don’t opt for anything too light or too dark and instead choose summery thin tights, which is the only way of retaining at least a bit of sex appeal. Sometimes, I see people wearing models that look like compression tights, and it’s awful.
Pearl earrings
I am all for a feminine ladylike look, but pearl earrings can really age us, unless we wear them with a denim or leather jacket and a basic T-shirt. So if you’re wearing an elegant outfit, forget about pearls, or else it will be too much. The only exception is a little black dress, for evening occasions, when you can easily play around with this timeless accessory.
Long knitwear
It’s lovely, but wear a pair of high heels, otherwise it will age you and make you seem strict. Wear it with a powder silky tank top, a petite bag, boyfriend jeans, and very high heels. Forget about the sneaker style, only Gigi Hadid can pull that one off, and even she just barely. Long knitwear is a useful piece, but if it’s all stretched out and oversized, it will make you look like an old lady, which you’re definitely not.
Formal hairstyles
Too formal. By this I mean that styles still vary across different countries, and some of them are too fixated on hairspray, which is all but extinct elsewhere. So a fly that might bump into your hair, could be a kamikaze , because a whole can of spray will make your hair feel like a concrete wall. These super formal hairstyles tend to age, they look artificial, just like blue eye shadow. Just don’t.

Very nice and useful! Love it.
Never be caught without something to wear again! Thanks to the perfect white tee, a sharp blazer, a chic LBD, and these seven other wardrobe essentials, day-to-day dressing will be infinitely easier.
Fact: wardrobe staples never change. I mean, the clue is in the name, but the basic items that everyone looks good in stay consistent year after year. While I always love to buy a couple of trend-led pieces every season (statement sleeves and mules right now, if you’re asking), it’s the classic pieces I’ll never tire of.
